For a long time I had an interest to create beattape whole sampled from cassettes. But it was hard to move in this direction due to lack of tapes available at secondary market. Two years ago I got an opportunity to get more than 200 cassettes (over 12 kilos actually) really cheap so I got them. Some time after I realized that it is not so easy to start explore that raw-stuff heap. My friend released this (zerocondition.bandcamp.com/album/the-musical-collection) as result of first exploration session.
I left all these tapes in a dark and dry place (on cabinet bottom shelf) for about a year and then started to listen them in random order trying to simultaneously defeat nostalgia attacks and sample all things that may be useful. The range of material are highly wild: from russian pop music of 90s/00s (recorded from radio broadcast!) and russian chanson to audio tales and someone's personal voice records. That was on just first two kilos of tapes. Ten more left.
